Mary Ann Stone [st.1.4.8]
Mary Ann Stone was the eighth child of Benjamin Stone & Sarah Duffell born April-June 1865 in Wolstanton.
In 1871 Mary Ann & her parents & brothers & sisters were living at Birks Row, Knutton, Wolstanton, Staffs where her father was an iron puddler.
Mary Ann was still living at home at 4 Birks Row in 1881.
In 1891 Mary Ann was working as a domestic servant for George Viggars, a brewer’s agent, & his family at 1 North St., Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs.
By 1901 Mary Ann was employed as a housekeeper by her uncle Richard Price, aged 75. Richard was now widowed as his wife Mary Ann Stone [st.1.3] had died in 1898.
Mary Ann was an executor of her uncle Richard Price’s will upon his death in 1909.
On April 25th, 1909 Mary Ann married Charles Warrender at Knutton Church, Wolstanton. Charles was christened May 6th, 1862 at Dawley Magna, Shropshire, the son of John Warrender & Emma Tart. (In 1881 Charles, a coal miner, was lodging at 17 Birk’s Row, Knutton & was therefore a near neighbour of Mary Ann.)
Charles Warrender’s first wife was Elizabeth Jones, who he married on December 12th,1881 at Wolstanton. Charles & Elizabeth emigrated to the USA & went to live in Pennsylvania where they had a family of 6 children. Elizabeth died in 1900 at Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania. There is a record of Charles returning to England in 1902 & at that time he is recorded as a foreman. Charles returned to England again in 1909, arriving in Liverpool on March 31st – marrying Mary Ann the next month!
Charles & Mary Ann sailed to Philadelphia on May 19th, 1909 from Liverpool. Charles was noted as a colliery foreman.

Mary Ann died, aged 49, on March 20th, 1914 at Carrolltown Borough, Cambria, Pennsylvania. Probate was granted to widowed Charles & her effects were £230. Mary Ann was buried at Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania.
The 1920 census of Pennsylvania shows widowed Charles living in Osceola, Clearfield with his daughter, Etta, aged 26.
In 1930 Charles was living in Osceola Mills & daughter Henrietta was still with him. Charles was a foreman in a coal mine.
Charles & daughter Etta were still living together in Osceola Mills in 1940.
Charles, a retired coal operator, died at his home in Osceola Mills in 1955 & was buried there.
